Coastal Flood Warning As of 4:09 am EST on March 13, 2010
... Coastal Flood Warning in effect until 10 PM EST this evening...
The National Weather Service in Baltimore MD/Washington has issued a coastal Flood Warning... which is in effect until 10 PM EST this evening. The coastal Flood Advisory is no longer in effect. The coastal Flood Watch is no longer in effect.
Water levels were running 1 to 1.5 feet above normal on the upper Chesapeake Bay and upper tidal Potomac River early this morning... and were running around 2 feet above normal on the middle Chesapeake Bay and lower tidal Potomac River. These positive departures will continue to result in minor tidal flooding during the remaining high tides this morning.
With a persistent and gusty easterly wind... water levels are expected to further increase to 2 to 3 feet above astronomical predictions later today. This combined with the new moon phase of the lunar cycle is expected to result in moderate tidal flooding during high tide times this afternoon and evening.
Minor to moderate tidal flooding will continue to be possible into Sunday as water levels will be slow to recede. In addition... runoff from heavy rainfall will enhance the flood threat on the upper tidal Potomac River.
Here are the times of the next high tides for a few locations from north to south... on the Chesapeake Bay... Havre de Grace... 8:00 am and 8:51 PM... Bowley Bar... 5:38 am and 6:30 PM... Fort McHenry Baltimore... 4:47 am and 5:38 PM... Annapolis U.S. Naval Academy... 4:08 PM... Solomons Island... 1:00 PM... Point Lookout... 12:10 PM...
Now along the Potomac River... Alexandria... 6:46 am and 7:07 PM... Indian Head... 6:14 am and 6:35 PM... Goose Bay... 2:41 PM... Coltons Point... 1:31 PM...
A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert for rising water... and take appropriate action to protect life and property.
