North Texas can experience a wide variety of weather patterns ranging
from prolonged periods of intense rainfall and devasting flooding to
months of below normal precipitation and extreme drought. From floods
to droughts... hydrologic extremes often plague our vast nation.
Prolonged periods of flooding and drought cause millions of dollars
in damage each year. Dam operators and agricultural... emergency and
recreation communities and municipalities all depend on the river and
flood forecasts from the National Weather Service. These forecasts
are produced either daily or when flooding may occur.
